Save a drop for later Show the children how much water they can save as a group together when they wash their hands, then correlate that to everything such as getting a drink of water or brushing their teeth. Be innovative. Have all the children was their hands and leave the water on while they do it. Have a bowl/bucket in the sink to catch the excess water. Then, have them and help them pour the water into empty gallon milk jugs or one of those bigger 5 gallon clear water containers you see at doctors offices or you can buy from walmart. A funnel may be helpful for pouring and not spilling. When your done, have them pick them to see how heavy they are. One advantage of doing the milk jugs is you can use them for other games. The purpose will be magnifying what that can see in front of them. You might say something like, “Can you imagine if everyone at your school saved water?” or “Could you imagine how much water we could save if everyone in the whole town or city saved this much water everyday for just a week?” Walk a mile for Water In many 3rd world countries, people (ususally women and children) walk well over a mile just to get water. This is accurate in the Northern Region of Ghana where Water for Christ works is currently working. Often, people carry 3-5 gallons on top of their heads. For this game, have the children walk a far distance while holding one milk jug of water in each hand for a period of time. Make the little ones do it too (within reason). Have their sibling or an older child pretend to be their brother or sister and help them. Explain to them that this is the job of women and children all around the world. Bowl Balance - Click for Info Click for Video Idea Make a base of cloth suitable for wearing on the head perhaps out of material or bandanas. Make round circle base. Experiment with putting stuff on the base of your own head and walking with it. Each night have the children practice with and metal bowl or something, perhaps a Bible, on their head that they can do. At the end of the week try letting them walk with water in the metal non-breakable bowl outside perhaps for some good fun! The purpose will teach them that this is how many people in the world get their clean water from wells like the wells that Water for Christ digs.
